What a Tesla custom wrap actually is

A custom wrap is a digital skin for the car that appears on your touchscreen — not vinyl on the bodywork. Tesla calls the feature Paint Shop, and it lives in the car under Toybox. You supply a PNG drawn on Tesla’s official UV template for your model, and the car maps that flat image onto the 3D render of your vehicle.

Since the 2026 Summer Update (software 2026.26, rolled out from late July 2026) you can send a wrap straight from the Tesla mobile app — Creations → Wrap → Upload — on app version 4.59.0 or later. Before that, the only route was a USB stick. That change is why this tool is built to work properly on a phone: the whole workflow now happens in your hand, standing next to the car.

Tesla’s file requirements

• Format: PNG only
• Size: 512×512 to 1024×1024 pixels — match the template for best results
• File size: 1 MB maximum
• File name: letters, numbers, spaces, dashes and underscores only, up to 30 characters
• How many: up to 10 from the mobile app and up to 10 from a USB drive — two separate pools, not 10 in total

The 30-character filename cap catches people out constantly: a wrap with a longer or punctuation-heavy name simply never appears in Paint Shop, with no error to explain why. This tool sanitises the filename for you and shows exactly what will be saved.

The Cybertruck is not square

Tesla’s documentation says 512×512 to 1024×1024, which reads as “square”. But the Cybertruck template they publish is 1024×768. Editors that assume a square canvas stretch Cybertruck designs out of proportion. Every template here uses its real dimensions, read from the files themselves.

Every supported model

Tesla publishes templates for twelve variants. Pick yours to start with the right canvas:

• Cybertruck — 1024×768
• Model 3 — 1024×1024
• Model 3 Standard & Premium (2024+) — 1024×1024
• Model 3 Performance (2024+) — 1024×1024
• Model Y — 1024×1024
• Model Y Standard (2025+) — 1024×1024
• Model Y Premium (2025+) — 1024×1024
• Model Y Performance (2025+) — 1024×1024
• Model Y L — 1024×1024
• Model S (2021+) — 1024×1024
• Model S Plaid (2025+) — 1024×1024
• Model X (2021+) — 1024×1024

There are no templates for pre-2021 Model S or Model X, so those cars cannot use custom wraps at all.
