Model S (2021+) wrap template size

Tesla's Model S (2021+) template is 1024 × 1024 pixels — a 1:1 square, like ten of the other eleven templates Tesla publishes. That size is not a suggestion. The template is a flat unwrap of the car's body panels, so every pixel maps to a fixed place on the vehicle. Change the proportions and the mapping still happens — your artwork just arrives distorted.

Tesla accepts PNGs from 512px up to 1024px per side, but there is no reason to go below the ceiling: the image is stretched over an entire car, and a 512px file looks soft in person. Export at 1024 × 1024, keep it under 1 MB, and name the file with 30 characters or fewer — letters, numbers, spaces, dashes and underscores only. Anything outside that set and the wrap tends to fail quietly rather than throw an error. The wrap size guide covers the full rule set.

Is this the right template for your car?

Covers: Model S from the 2021 refresh onward. Tesla ships no template for earlier cars.

How to confirm this is your template:

The mistake to avoid: Trying to use this sheet on an older Model S. The pre-refresh car has different bodywork, and Tesla publishes no template for it at all.

Closely related templates, if the description above does not match your car:

No template exists for the pre-2021 Model S

Tesla publishes wrap templates for the Model S only from the 2021 refresh onward. There is no sheet for Model S cars built 2012 through 2020, and no editor — this one included — can invent one, because a wrap has to match the exact panel layout of the body it is going on. Using the 2021+ template on an older car produces a wrap that is misaligned everywhere.

Designing for this body

The S has the longest, cleanest flank of any Tesla sedan and very little visual interruption between the arches. Text placed there stays readable at speed; text over the arches does not.

Where this template comes from

Tesla publishes the templates itself, in the teslamotors/custom-wraps repository. The Model S (2021+) sheet lives in models-2021/, and the editor above loads that exact file straight from Tesla's repo in your browser. Nothing is rehosted here and nothing you draw is uploaded anywhere — the design stays on your machine until you export it.

Worth knowing: Tesla's own README describes the templates as "512x512 to 1024x1024", which is why so many third-party wrap tools assume a square canvas. The Cybertruck file on disk is 1024 × 768. We read the dimensions from the PNGs rather than the documentation.

After you export

A finished Model S (2021+) wrap goes into Paint Shop one of two ways: through the Tesla mobile app, which needs app version 4.59.0 or later and vehicle software 2026.26 or later, or from a USB drive. The two routes have separate slots — 10 wraps from the app and 10 from USB, not 10 in total. The upload guide walks through both. If the file goes across and then never appears in the car, the troubleshooting page lists the usual causes — an oversized file and an illegal filename character between them account for most of it.

Wrap makers for other Teslas

Tesla ships a separate template per body and, on some cars, per trim. Pick the one that matches your Model S exactly — a wrap built on the wrong sheet will not line up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should a Model S (2021+) wrap be?
Tesla's Model S (2021+) template is 1024 × 1024 pixels, so export your PNG at exactly that size. Keep the file under 1 MB and the filename to 30 characters or fewer, using only letters, numbers, spaces, dashes and underscores.
Does a Model S (2021+) wrap have to be square?
Yes. Tesla's Model S (2021+) template is 1024 × 1024, a 1:1 square. Eleven of Tesla's twelve templates are square — only the Cybertruck is different, at 1024 × 768.
Which cars does the Model S (2021+) template cover?
Model S from the 2021 refresh onward. Tesla ships no template for earlier cars. Quick check: Yoke or round steering wheel — both use this template, because the body is the same.
Can I use the Model S Plaid (2025+) template on a Model S (2021+)?
No. Tesla publishes them as separate templates because the bodywork differs, so the panel layouts are not interchangeable. A wrap built on the wrong sheet uploads fine and then sits out of register on the car.
Can I make a wrap for a pre-2021 Model S?
No. Tesla publishes templates only for the 2021 refresh onward, so there is no sheet for Model S cars from 2012 through 2020. Using the 2021+ template on an older car will not work — the body is a different shape.
Do I need a particular Tesla app or software version to upload a wrap?
To upload from your phone you need Tesla app 4.59.0 or later and vehicle software 2026.26 or later. Otherwise you can load wraps from a USB drive. The two routes have separate slots: 10 wraps from the app and 10 from USB.
